“Wim Pijbes’ Cultural Terrain: A Comprehensive Portrait”

Artwork 2: The Vermeer exhibition in the Rijksmuseum

For the first time in 27 years, there is another Vermeer exhibition where the works of the painter can be seen together. Spread over ten rooms, 28 works are shown on the basis of various themes, including: musical temptation, letters and visiting men.

The exhibition takes Pijbes back to the time when he learned to play music. He once started on the recorder and then wanted to learn to play the piano. “The switch to the piano after that was not a success, I am very jealous of the people who can do it, but I was done with it quickly. You have to have time for music, you also have to do it a lot. That makes perfect. But that wasn’t in it for me.”
