sun, released in 1988, was directed by Ron Howard and written by Bob Dolman from a story by George Lucas, who also produced. The film starred Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh and Billy Barty. The story follows Davis, who plays an aspiring wizard who protects a female baby prophesied to bring down the Evil Queen from this queen who swears to destroy the baby and take over the world. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed just $ 137 million. Produced for around $ 35 million, however, it was a financial success, if not a major blockbuster. Along with two academic awards, the film also created an active fan that has long called for a follow-up.
George Lucas had the idea for the story in 1972, 16 years before its release. Although Lucas worked to tie up the cast and crew, he was only able to make the film shoot in the mid-1980s because the visual effects technology had not matured enough. The stars finally aligned after Howard ended Cocoon and Lucas’s own Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) could handle the visual effects. Now, more than 30 years after the film debuted, fans can look forward to its return to be introduced to a whole new generation of fans.
The sequel series pilot will be directed by Jon M. Chu, of Crazy Rich Asians Fame. Beyond that, he’s in development, and as the pilot director, little is known about the show or where the story will lead. Ron Howard, an executive producer of the series, describes it as a “creative addiction” rather than a “nostalgic throwback”. Willow, played by Warwick Davis, will return. Davis is also a Star Wars alumnus, having played one of the original Ewoks.
There was a long period of silence from Lucas, during the label’s unwavering focus on Star wars universe. Now that Disney + offers a vast new audience and story-hungry, mining beloved valuable titles seems like a golden opportunity for the entire House of Mickey (and all of its sub-labels) to develop their intellectual property. in various directions and spread their roots. far and wide.
