William: «There was interest from Benfica, but I don’t think about going back»

William Carvalho confirmed that Benfica tried to sign him, but admitted that he does not intend to return to Portugal at this stage of his career.

«I’m well off. There was that opportunity. There was interest from the club [Benfica], but I don’t have in my head going back to Portugal at the moment», referred the Portuguese international in statements to Channel 11.

The Portuguese international considered that Jorge Jesus, the coach with whom he worked at Sporting, was “important in his evolution”.

“I improved with him and all the coaches I had. They are different coaches and we can improve with everyone. Jesus was important in my evolution», he said.

William Carvalho also commented on the move of João Mário, with whom he grew up at Sporting, to Luz.

«I know that João Mário’s decision was difficult, he thought about it a lot, certainly. Fans must be upset, but players have to be professionals. I know you made a difficult decision. He has a few years to play until the end of his career. And then? I didn’t [Benfica], because I didn’t want to do it. I hope I don’t have to do it in the future,” he shot.
