Willem II dissolves contract of superfluous striker Gladon | NOW

Willem II terminated Paul Gladon’s contract on Saturday. The striker was never able to conquer a permanent starting place with the Tilburg team and ended up sidetracked this season.

The 28-year-old Gladon made the transfer-free transfer from FC Groningen to Willem II in the summer of 2019. In his first season, the born Hoofddorper made eighteen appearances in the Eredivisie, although he had to do it with only raids.

This season Gladon no longer has to count on playing time at all. The striker made four appearances and a total of 133 minutes in the Eredivisie. His last match was at home against his former club FC Groningen at the end of November (1-0 loss).

Gladon started his career in 2010 at Sparta Rotterdam and also played for FC Dordrecht and Heracles Almelo, forcing a transfer to Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. That was not a success, because Gladon was rented to Heracles again in the 2017/2018 season.

After a short adventure on a rental basis at Sint-Truiden in Belgium, Gladon returned to the Eredivisie at FC Groningen in January 2019. He played a total of 92 official matches at the highest level in the Netherlands, scoring sixteen times.
