Today, students are paid NOK 126,357 in loans and grants a year, if they study full-time.

VG has previously written about students who go over DKK 5,000 in minus every month. Students in Norway also work most alongside the studies, compared to Sweden and Denmark.

The student organizations have i longer time required that the support paid out from the Lånekassen is increased.

A voluntary loan

In order to quickly improve the students’ finances, the Conservative Party believes it would be a good idea to give students who want, an opportunity to take out some extra loans from the Lånekassen.

– We have initially planned a loan of up to NOK 40,000, which you can borrow in addition to what you already get, says Henrik Asheim, deputy leader of the Conservative Party.

FLEXIBILITY: The deputy leader of the Conservative Party, Henrik Asheim, wants the students to have a more flexible study schedule.

He adds:

– This will mean that the grant share of the entire loan will be just under 40 per cent, around 30 per cent if you borrow the maximum.

Asheim emphasizes that this should be a voluntary loan, and that you should be able to borrow a lower amount than what they have in mind as the maximum amount.

Avoid using credit cards and consumer loans

Høyre, Frp, Venstre and KrF introduced eleven months of student support and increased the student support during the years they were in government.

– But we see that some students still say that it is cramped.

Asheim believes that this offer will therefore be a great opportunity for more students to be able to have more flexibility in how they want to finance their daily studies.

LOANS: More students have to resort to credit cards or consumer loans.

The deputy head further says that they want to avoid students having to resort to credit cards or consumer loans.

A survey commissioned by NSO shows that many students have to use funds such as consumer loans and support from family to get by on a daily basis.

– I am convinced that a good number of students would take a little extra from a very favorable loan if they had the opportunity to do so.

Do you think that the current student aid is sufficient?
