How many stings have occurred?
The police and the gendarmerie were informed of 1098 victims. 808 complaints have been filed so far. On the sidelines of the investigations, the Anti-Narcotics Office (Ofast) was alerted to these cases, according to Le Figaro, in case investigations reveal organized trafficking. Investigations are opened for the administration of harmful substances and intentional violence with weapons.
Is a region more affected?
Morbihan is the most affected department with 53 cases, ahead of Var with 39 victims, Hérault with 37 cases, Bouches-du-Rhône and Isère with 21 bites each.
What effects do injections have?
Victims have reported “immediate effects”, others “delayed effects”. The most common symptoms described by victims are dizziness, hot flashes, loss of sensitivity. Sting victims lost consciousness and were taken to hospital for examination. None of the victims reported a robbery or sexual assault following a sting. The injections took place on the arms and legs.
What are the treatments ?
As soon as a victim reports having suffered a sting of unknown origin, he must carry out toxicological, urinal, vaginal and oral tests. “No analysis reveals the presence of GHB”, this substance nicknamed the date rape drug, specifies Le Figaro.
Have there been any arrests?
Several suspects have been arrested so far in Lanester, Reims, Nantes, Lyon, Toulon or Vic-Fezensac in the Gers. Almost every time the suspects were released. In the Var, a man in his twenties who had stolen spectators from the show of TF1 “The song of the year” was indicted for “aggravated violence by weapon” and was imprisoned. A few days before the first summer festivals, the syringe affair poisons the lives of festival organizers and worries some festival-goers.
