Wife of former coffee shop owner Van Laarhoven from Thai cell | Abroad

Lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops confirms reports of this from RTL Nieuws.

Tukta van Laarhoven was arrested in Thailand in 2014 and served an 11-year prison sentence, but has now been released early under certain conditions. She is not allowed to leave Thailand for the time being. It is unclear how long these restrictions will continue to apply. He wants to try to get her to the Netherlands.

Knoops says she was released early in the afternoon and is “very relieved.” According to him, she is on her way to her family in Thailand to stay there for the time being. Her husband is also “very happy” with the news.

Johan van Laarhoven has been back in the Netherlands since the beginning of this year. He was in a Thai cell for 5.5 years, under appalling conditions, after being sentenced to 75 years for money laundering. He had to serve him net for twenty years.

In prison in Vught he is serving part of that sentence and in August next year he will be eligible for parole. Knoops wants Van Laarhoven to be partially released via a penitentiary program next August, but according to the lawyer, the Public Prosecution Service is holding it back for the time being.

The founder of the coffee shop chain Grass Company returned to the Netherlands after mediation by Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security). Grapperhaus has previously said that for Tukta, a Thai national, it was not legally possible to serve her sentence here.
