Wiersma launches guarantee fund for people with debts

Outgoing State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment Dennis Wiersma will help people with debt problems by means of a special guarantee fund. “In this way, people with financial problems who are in debt are in 95 percent of the cases rid of the problems within three years,” said the minister in the television program WNL Op Zondag on NPO 1.

The VVD minister was a guest to talk about people who – partly due to corona – end up in financial problems. With the guarantee fund, municipalities can take over the entire debt of people.

“People with debts then have to deal with one organization: the municipality,” explains the State Secretary. “In this way, people with financial problems who are in debt are 95 percent of the time out of the problems within three years. And I give them that.”

‘We are here to support the entrepreneur’

Wiersma also talked about the corona support for entrepreneurs. “Support for entrepreneurs is not infinite: we cannot provide wage support forever and reimburse entrepreneurs’ fixed costs. But as long as strict corona measures are needed, we are there to support the entrepreneur.”
