Pollen expert Christina Endler explains what allergy sufferers need to be prepared for in the next few days, what itches in the nose in particular and how far the research has progressed.
Many people in the region around Freiburg are currently plagued by hay fever. In pharmacies there is a strong demand for antiallergic tablets, eye drops and nasal spray. Christina Endler works at the Center for Medical Meteorological Research of the German Weather Service in Freiburg.
BZ: Which pollen can you measure in the air?
Endler: There are many plants that secrete pollen. We focus on the eight main allergen species: hazel, alder, birch, ash, grass, rye, mugfu and ragweed. Studies show that these eight plants have a very high allergenic potential.
