Why Kozí’s story became an internet meme after 15 years

While in the Czech Republic, the animated fairy tale The Goat’s Tale – The Rumors of Old Prague once broke attendance records, viewers abroad did not understand it. That is why now, fifteen years after the Czech premiere of the first part of the film, the stories about Kuba, his constantly chattering goat and the girl Máca with a huge bust have become an internet meme.

At the same time, it was the busty Máca, in the English translation Katie, who caused the biggest uproar on the Internet. For example, a British news site for young readers The Tab writes that Katie has become the “queen of Twitter” and a “viral superstar.” In the past week, she became the main medieval icon of the so-called reaction videos – short several-second clips cut from the film, which people use instead of comments or use them to gloss over something funny.

Among the most popular are Máca, or Katie, driving to the execution with a bag on her head, the scenes in which she spills various objects from behind her chest also attracted attention, and the part of the fairy tale when Katie disappears from the bed in the middle of a love act and leaves the church covered only with a blanket is also popular. saying, “Damn, sorry, I’ll be right back.”

Part of the internet does not understand the rumors of Old Prague and asks: what kind of children’s fairy tale is this, where the main character is hanged at the end? At the same time, the fact that Koza was hanged instead of Máca did not calm the user down, and she also survived thanks to a clever trick. Others don’t like the constant sexual innuendos, double entenders and Maca’s giggles.

One of the videos on Youtube, which on The Goat’s Tale, contains an opinion about the film right in its title: “This low-budget animated film ruined my life.” Other viewers were outraged by the figure of a little boy in front of the Prague Astronomical Clock, who is only wearing a T-shirt, and when he raises his hands up, his natural skin peeks out. “The goat story is the most traumatic thing that has ever happened to me,” added another user, who cried with fear and felt confused while watching the story.

But thanks to Internet memes, the fairy tale also found its fans. “I’m watching Goat Story on YouTube to learn about this queen’s story,” writes one Twitter user about Maca. Some also suggest actors who could play Maca, Kuba and the goat if a live-action remake of the film is in the works. Among other things, the opinion appeared on social networks that Máca, or Katie, looks like Madonna.

Even in the Czech Republic, the release of Kozí’s story as the first 3D animated feature film was not without controversy. While critics appreciated the craftsmanship of the animation, the script, for example, was unsuccessful according to Mirka Spáčilová. According to Irena Hejdová, the lack of humor kills the film, with few and poorly timed visual jokes. But, as you can see, users of social networks found them fifteen years later.
