“Why did you dub Slovak actors?”, Viewers of the new series Ultimatum ask angrily.

Czech Television broadcast the first episode of the series on Sunday evening Ultimatum, where the main role of police negotiator Daniel Andrik was played by the Slovak actor Ján Koleník. And it is the dubbing of Slovak actors that is a thorn in the side of the audience.

Police negotiator Dano Andrik gets involved in the political-negotiation crisis in the cardiac surgery department, where, in addition to the Minister of Defense, Dan’s pregnant girlfriend Lenka is also present. In order to get her free, she and her patients and staff must face the demands of the unpredictable Kornan kidnapper on the one hand and the pressures of the highest political leaders on the other. Time is running relentlessly and Dano must make a quick decision: follow the orders from the highest places or help the kidnapper clear his name? An eight-part co-production series Ultimatum was filmed in Slovakia during two waves of the pandemic. This is the historically first co-production of Czech Television and TV JOJ.

Žaneta K. writes on the Czech TV Facebook profile: “Exciting, great for me! But just please don’t dub Slovak actors! I know almost everyone, and hearing a different voice is just crazy. ” Almost everyone complains about dubbing: “Personally, I was very bothered by the whole film, Czech dubbing, which seemed completely unnatural to me. I believe that in the original it would sound completely different. Slovak is beautiful !! Exciting so far, ” or: “Was it necessary to dub it? ‘I haven’t heard anything so awful in a long time, normally I went out after 20 minutes.’ Do you really think that no one in this country understands Slovak ?!”

With the plot as such and the story in the opening episode, the audience is 50 out of 50. Some like it, but the overall impression is spoiled by the subduing, which seems artificial and the actors don’t fit: “Well, we’ll see where it unfolds in the story. ‘It’s fine,’ and others join in with the fact that the first part had a gradient, and they wonder where it will move on. Others criticize the series: “Embarrassingly convulsive, overly tense, sometimes ridiculous (son of Minister Milos – WTF?). Everyone is constantly screaming at each other, they have nerves, stress, no one behaves naturally there. We’ll see where he gets after the second episode, he’ll definitely find his audience again.
