In a way, the partnership between the two companies was a victim of its own success, explains a repairman working in a particularly busy shop. Apple would have underestimated the demand, but its original parts are more expensive than “compatible” parts and its procedures more complex. Repairers were finding it increasingly difficult to cover their costs.
