Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Android users have been moving to iPhone in droves in recent years. What do you think is the reason they switched to using an iPhone?

A report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) states that over the last few years, Apple has succeeded in attracting more Android market share.

In fact, the company from Cupertino, USA, now sells more smartphones than Samsung.

According to a report from CIRP, 13% of iPhone buyers are people who switched from Android to iOS. This figure is down from 15% in 2022, which was the highest figure over the past five years.

Over the past five years, the percentage of iPhone buyers that came from Android phone users has fluctuated between 11% and 15%.

Quoted by GizChina, Wednesday (6/3/2024), this consistent transition is likely due to the complexity associated with switching to a new operating system. Including data transfer and adaptation to the user interface (UI) system.

However, unlike old iPhone users who upgrade and often choose the latest model, the majority (29%) of Android users prefer to buy an older iPhone, such as the iPhone SE 3, 12, or 13 (including the mini version).

CIRP discovered the reasons behind the switch to this older iPhone series. One of them is due to budget availability or funds for Android users who want to switch to the iPhone.

Users who turn to iPhone mostly come from using mid-range Android phones at affordable prices.

They choose the old iPhone series because the cellphone has an affordable price, so the price of the old iPhone series is deemed appropriate to the available funds they have.

Beyond budget considerations, CIRP highlights the appeal of Apple’s integrated ecosystem. Exclusive features like iMessage, FaceTime, and integration of Apple accessories like AirPods have appeal for turning away Android users.

This shows that users who switch to iPhone prioritize the benefits of the Apple ecosystem over the advanced features found in the latest models.

However, other interesting things were revealed in the research. CRIP says there are some interesting differences in this group of Android switcher users.

Although most consumers prefer older iPhone models, it turns out that a large number (37%) prefer the latest Pro or Pro Max models.

This suggests there may be two distinct segments within the Android user demographic switching to iPhone.

One prioritizes price and affordability, and the other looks for features and ‘status’ by choosing to use the latest premium iPhone series.
