Whoever buys food in this way loses a lot of money. This is a big mistake in this day and age

In the past two years, when there was a very specific situation not only in the Czech Republic, which was crowned with a number of lockdowns and fears, the specific purchase of food sales became very widespread. While until then online sellers were more likely to flounder and fight for survival, this moment literally gave them wings.

You pay for comfort

But the situation has changed. People are no longer afraid to leave their homes and can once again go to supermarkets and hypermarkets to buy what they need. But habit is an iron shirt, and if someone has gotten used to clicking on their weekly shopping from the comfort of the couch, which will arrive at a pre-set time, they will not want to change.

It must be said that this is a very comfortable and pleasant service that has its place on the market. At the moment, however, it is necessary to ask whether it is not making shopping too expensive, because people are starting to have deeper pockets, or they should prepare for worse times.

Although online food sellers try to convince us of this, it is very difficult for them to sell products at the same prices as brick-and-mortar stores. In short, you pay for comfort. And it is far from the fact that you have to pay a few tens of crowns extra for transport. You could even get married if you plan it well and make a few larger purchases a month.

What’s worse is that grocery stores are a bit more expensive across the board, and that’s on practically every item. If you make a large purchase in this way, it will usually be several hundred crowns more expensive online than if you made it in a store.

A difference of thousands of crowns

It is a relatively well-known matter, but it has currently become the core of the dispute between Rohlík and Tesco. While Rohlík is a pure online retailer, Tesco sells its products at the same price online and in stores. And so it made a comparison where the purchase is cheaper. Turns out it’s in Tesco, by around 13%.

If you are shopping for, say, a family of four and spend around twenty thousand crowns every month on food, drugstores and various accessories, the thirteen percent can represent a significant and welcome saving of several thousand crowns.

For a long time, food prices did not go up, but that started to change at the end of the year. While not so long ago, no one paid too much attention to their prices and it was not a problem to buy them more expensively online, today many people have to deal with literally every penny. For them, returning from the online environment to brick-and-mortar stores can be a good solution.
