Who is that Pokemon?! Biologist captures strange octopus; last seen 20 years ago

Imagine that you are swimming in the deep ocean to document life in coral reefs and suddenly you come across a rare creature last seen 20 years ago and no, we are not talking about Pokemon. A photographer and marine biologist came across a female manta octopus, an animal that spends most of its time in the open sea.

The expert captured amazing images of the specimen and posted them on her Instagram account, which has had thousands of reactions on social media.

“These animals are a species of pelagic octopus that is rarely found and spends its entire life cycle in the open sea. The first living male was only sighted in 2002!” the biologist wrote on her social networks.

The octopus found by Shackleton was of considerable size and its bright orange color contrasted with the blue of the ocean.

“The colors of her cape were amazing and it was fascinating to see the way she moved in the water. Surely a once in a lifetime encounter for me, I am so grateful!” she concluded.

Blanket octopuses are a small group of cephalopod molluscs belonging to the genus Tremoctopus, which contains only four species that live in tropical oceans. The females are much larger than the males and only they have the characteristic coats.
