(CNN Spanish) — The Government of Florida decided to send checks of US$450 per child to nearly 59,000 families in the state before the start of classes. This is what you should know about the benefit.
A total of US$ 35.5 million from the budget are allocated to this initiative, according to information available on the official website of Republican Ron DeSantis’ administration.
This is a one-time benefit, sent to families who are enrolled in a series of state social programs.
Who received the payment?
The payment was sent to families receiving monetary support from the Pandemic Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, families with foster children, and those in the Guardianship and Family Assistance programs. care by relatives or non-relatives of the Department of Children and Families.
To be in the selection, families had to be enrolled in the programs by July 1.

What can the $450 be used for?
Although the delivery of this check occurs in the context of going back to school, you can use the money to buy what you need, according to De Santis.
“As a father of three children, I know that preparing for a new school year can be both exciting and stressful. To offset the costs of rising inflation, especially with a new school year approaching, the state of Florida is giving you US $450 for each child in your care. This one-time payment can be used for anything from buying diapers to filling up gas,” says the letter he sent to the beneficiary families of the payment.
