Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The EM is still in full swing, as the Bundesliga comes back into focus. When the German Football League publishes the game plan for the coming season today (12:00 p.m.), fans will receive the answer to the question of who their favorite club will meet at the start.
Of course, there is a particular focus on record champions FC Bayern Munich, who are aiming for their tenth title in a row. Who can – or must – challenge Bayern in the opening game on August 13th?
The German champions traditionally contest the season opener – and in the past eight years this privilege has always been due to Bayern, who have always remained unbeaten. For the opponents, on the other hand, it was mostly no fun opening the season in the Allianz Arena. In the past season, the Munich team dealt with the later relegated FC Schalke 04 with 8: 0 on the first matchday. Werder Bremen (0: 6/2016) and Hamburger SV (0: 5/2015) also conceded hearty opening failures.
Borussia Mönchengladbach, VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim also lost out at the start of the season in Munich in recent years. Only Hertha BSC managed to wrest a point from the industry leader at 2-2 in 2019.
The schedule for the 2nd Bundesliga will also be announced on Friday, which will start the season on July 23 with well-known teams such as Werder Bremen, Hamburger SV, Fortuna Düsseldorf or Schalke.
