KONTAN.CO.ID – Copenhagen. Positive corona cases in Europe until August have reached 4 million people. The World Health Organization (WHO) noted an increase in an average of 26,000 positive cases of corona every day in Europe. However, WHO said that Europe does not need a lockdown again to deal with the corona virus.

The reason is because the government is now better prepared and has got an understanding of how to fight it in recent months. “With these additional and national ground rules aimed at, we are in a much better position now to eradicate the spread of this virus locally,” said the head of the WHO’s European branch Hans Kluge, quoted by AFP Thursday (20/8/2020) .

“We can deal with the virus and keep the economy running and the education system operational,” he added.

Europe has seen a steady increase in the number of cases over the past two months, he said. In the first week of August there were an additional 40,000 more cases reported, compared to June when cases were at their lowest.

“But we are not in February, we can manage the virus differently now than we did when Covid-19 first appeared,” said Kluge.

Besides reminding about hand hygiene, social distancingand national testing and tracking, WHO also suggested additional rules be applied if any corona clusters emerged. The cluster also emphasized the urgency of reopening schools with normal state conditions, because there would be a negative effect of closing schools on children.
