White Turmeric: A Natural Remedy for Cancer Prevention and Liver Protection

Empon-empon which is known as white turmeric in Indonesia has special benefits. Namely as an alternative material for the prevention and treatment of cancer in the female reproductive organs. Interesting. This is because there are indeed records of its use from generation to generation on the Asian continent to treat menstrual disorders and vaginal discharge.

Another very valuable information is the use of white turmeric in Islamic traditional medicine (traditional Islamic medicine). In the treatment it is said, white turmeric is hot and dry. Several times mentioned as a strong antidote against various agents of poisoning, including animal poisons. Also mentioned its efficacy for liver disorders, namely as a liver protecting agent.

Other uses in Islamic medicine are as a digestive tract booster, a digestive stimulating agent, to treat bloating, tonic the heart, which among other things treats tachycardia (pulse disturbances). However, the most important use mentioned in the records of Islamic medicine is for treating brain and nervous system health problems, including epilepsy, paralysis, and Parkinson’s disease. So, it can be said, the efficacy of white turmeric as a tonic for the nervous system, which is also suitable for nervous disorders in children.

The famous physician Ibn Sina (10th century) mentioned its properties for treating liver damage, as a tonic, and for treating jaundice and odema. The results of scientific research by Indian researchers provide information on the efficacy of white turmeric rhizome extract as antifungal, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, maintaining healthy skin, antitumor esophageal, antitumor stomach, and antiproliferative.

The smell of white turmeric is caused by essential oils (essentials), the ingredients of which are also known for their properties as cytotoxic and anticancer. Including breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Derived from the Curcuma zedoaria plant from the Zingiberaceae tribe, the selection of white turmeric rhizome requires caution to prevent mistakes. This herbal plant has a pseudo-stem, skewed, rooted, and has a tuber-like formation as a food reserve.

Flower arrangements grow above the ground from tuber buds and rhizomes. Originating from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India, white turmeric is currently cultivated in China, Japan, Nepal and Thailand. The main ingredients are starch, curcumin, and essential oils. In the rhizomes there are sesquiterpene group compounds, including curcumin, -turmerone, -eudesmol, zingiberene, furanodiene, -phellandrene, curcumanolide-A, curcumanolide-B, a-turmerone, and b-turmerone.
Liver Protection Activities

The liver plays an important role in the workings of the body’s organs, which include metabolic processes, maintaining the body’s immunity, and removing toxins from the body. Some herbs are known for their efficacy in maintaining liver function. White turmeric has been used for generations as a liver protector and research results support it.

Indian researchers’ scientific review mentions the effect of water-acetone extract as a liver protector in experiments with animals that were subjected to liver injury. It was stated that this effect was the result of the work of several sesquiterpene compounds and curcumin from white turmeric rhizome.

The rhizome essential oil is also reported to have liver protective activity. The results of this test strengthen the hereditary use of white turmeric as a liver protector amidst the increasing danger of poisoning. A well-functioning liver can work effectively “filtering” toxins that enter the body.

Antiproliferative properties

Antiproliferative means the ability to inhibit the growth of malignant cells that can affect other cell tissues in the vicinity. Some research results discuss the antiproliferative ability of white turmeric rhizome extract. One of them is the efficacy of a substance called zerumbon. The substance was proven to have anticancer and antiproliferative activity through experiments with experimental animals. The test proved that the chloroform extract fraction actually inhibited the proliferation of uterine smooth muscle cells.

These results are very useful as an alternative measure to prevent uterine cancer. Uterine cancer is caused by various factors, one of which is a disturbance in the balance of female hormones. This balance can affect the endometrial activity of the uterus. The endometrium is the inner muscular layer of the uterus, which over time makes a new lining. The layer will shed if there is no pregnancy.

Disorders of the hormonal balance can cause the process to run abnormally so that opportunities for cell malignancy will occur. Well, the results of this test support the use of white turmeric rhizome in the prevention and control of uterine cancer, whose incidence is increasingly worrying.
