White House postpones publication of Kennedy assassination documents Inland

Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump released 2,800 classified documents about the assassination in 2018. At the insistence of the security services, however, part remained secret, allegedly against Trump’s wishes. These documents had to be reassessed, after which they would eventually be published on December 15 of this year. However, this process has been delayed due to the corona pandemic. Biden has therefore now given the state archives and security services until December 15, 2022 to complete the work. Documents that have already been reviewed will be released as planned on December 15 of this year.

U.S. law requires all documents related to Kennedy’s assassination to be made public. Security forces must therefore limit the information they want to keep secret to the absolute minimum, according to a memorandum published by the White House on Friday. Only when national security, international relations or ongoing intelligence or police investigations are at stake should information be kept secret, the White House said.

The assassination of the 46-year-old president is a “deep national tragedy” that still haunts the minds, according to the White House. More than 250,000 documents about the murder have been released since the 1990s, about 90 percent of the total. The White House wants the National Archives to come up with a plan this year to make all of this material also accessible online.
