Rising temperatures! : Where you can now sit in the beer garden or restaurant without a test or appointment

The summer temperatures attract many people to the beer gardens and restaurants. In many cases, however, German citizens no longer see through because more different regulations apply. We’ll tell you where you can enjoy a cold beer with friends again – and what you need to go with it.

As the temperature rises, the incidence in Germany is falling. Of the 412 counties, around 312 counties and cities now have an incidence of less than 50!
Finally lick an ice cream again, enjoy cool drinks and meet friends. For those who have been completely vaccinated and recovered, this is possible nationwide and without restrictions.
If you are still waiting for your vaccination appointment, the contact restrictions of your respective federal state apply. But there are different regulations. We tell you which documents you need and where a test requirement in the beer garden still applies. FOCUS Online brings you safely to your table.
Where are beer gardens and restaurants even open – and what do I need?
Outside catering is already open nationwide. Under certain conditions, restaurateurs may release their chairs and tables outside or in the beer garden for guests. This does not yet apply across the board in indoor catering. For example, restaurants and bars in Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg and Thuringia are only allowed to serve guests outdoors or only offer food for out-of-home consumption.
Baden-Württemberg: The indoor and outdoor catering has been open since May 21st. Guests must provide their contact details. A negative test is also required. Guests do not need an appointment. Vaccination, recovery and test certificates must be submitted.
Bayern: The outdoor catering has been open since May 10th. Guests need an appointment and have to provide their contact details in advance. Vaccination, recovery and test certificates are also required. If a household wants to sit in the beer garden or outside catering, there is no obligation to provide evidence. From an incidence of less than 35, the obligation to provide evidence does not apply to indoor catering either. The gastronomy remains, however a total of Closed due to the current federal emergency brake in the city of Schweinfurt and in the district of Günzburg. There the incidence is over 100.

Berlin: The outdoor catering has been open since May 21, subject to conditions. Indoor catering should open from June 18th. Guests must provide their contact details in writing or digitally. Guests need vaccination, recovery and test certificates – and thus also a negative test.
Brandenburg: The outdoor catering has been open since May 21, subject to conditions. The indoor catering should open from June 3rd. Guests need an appointment in advance and have to enter their contact details there in writing or digitally. Guests also need vaccination, recovery and test certificates – and thus also a negative test.
Bremen: The outdoor catering has been open since May 21st. Guests must provide their contact details and also need proof of vaccination, recovery and test (negative antigen rapid test). You don’t need an appointment. If the incidence is below 50, there is no obligation to provide evidence!
Hamburg: The outdoor catering has been open since May 22nd. Guests must provide their contact details “electronically as possible”. A negative test or appointment is not necessary as the incidence in the city is less than 35. Restaurants and bars should be allowed to open from June 4th. Corresponding rules are not yet available (as of June 2nd).
Hessen: The outdoor catering has been open since May 17th. Guests must provide their contact details. You also need proof of vaccination, recovery and test – including a negative test. If the incidence is below 50, a test is only “recommended”. Guests do not need an appointment.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: The indoor and outdoor catering has been open since May 23rd. Guests must provide their contact details. You also need vaccination, recovery and test certificates (including a negative test). In outdoor catering, the test is not mandatory unless the district is participating in a model project. An appointment is not necessary there either.

Lower Saxony: The outdoor catering has been open since May 10th. Indoor dining may open from May 31st. Guests must provide their contact details. You also need proof of vaccination, recovery and test (rapid antigen test). In outdoor catering, the test is not mandatory unless the district is participating in a model project.
North Rhine-Westphalia: The indoor and outdoor catering has been open since May 15th. Guests must provide their contact details. There is no obligation to make an appointment. Guests in counties with an incidence of over 50 need appropriate evidence – so a negative test is also necessary. In regions with an incidence between 35 and 50, this obligation only applies to indoor catering. If the incidence is below 35, the test is completely unnecessary.
Rhineland-Palatinate: The indoor and outdoor catering is open under certain conditions. Guests must provide their contact details electronically or in writing. There is no obligation to make an appointment. For this, regardless of the incidence, guests need vaccination, recovery and test certificates.
Saarland: The indoor and outdoor catering is already open. Guests need an appointment and have to provide their contact details in individual cases. In addition, guests in indoor or outdoor restaurants need vaccination, recovery and test certificates.
Saxony: The outdoor catering has been open since May 10th subject to conditions. With an incidence of less than 50, all external requirements do not apply – this includes appointment, test and verification obligations. Guests from one household do not need a negative test in outdoor catering.
Saxony-Anhalt: The outdoor catering has been open since May 8, subject to conditions. The indoor catering opened on May 25th. Guests must provide their contact details electronically or in writing. Regardless of the incidence, visitors need proof of vaccination, recovery and testing.
Schleswig-Holstein: The indoor and outdoor catering is open under certain conditions. Guests must provide their contact details. There is no obligation to make an appointment. Evidence is not required for outdoor catering. In restaurants and bars (indoor areas), customers must present a negative test result. Alternatively, evidence confirming complete vaccination or recovery applies.
Thuringia: The outdoor catering has been open since May 6th subject to certain conditions. Guests need an appointment and have to enter their contact details electronically or in writing. No negative test is necessary in outdoor catering. The gastronomy remains closed due to the current federal emergency brake in the Hildburghausen district.

What vaccination, recovery and test certificates do I need in order to sit in the beer garden or restaurant?
Fully vaccinated (15 days after second vaccination or vaccination)
Fully vaccinated people need the “international vaccination card”, the vaccination certificate or the digital proof that they have completed the corona vaccination. Anyone who has only received a vaccination after a corona infection (within six months) also needs proof of the positive PCR test result.

Recovered (between 28 days and six months after a positive test result)
Genesis must present the positive PCR test or a certificate from the health authority. This must show the date of the positive test. The PCR test is valid for six months. After this period, people will no longer count as recovered.
Guests with a quick test from the pharmacy, family doctor or vaccination center
German citizens who are neither fully vaccinated nor recovered need a negative rapid test in order to be able to sit in the beer garden or in the outdoor catering. These are available free of charge from pharmacies, family doctors or test centers. It is always valid for 24 hours from the test.
Guests who carry out a self-test on site
Some restaurateurs also offer self-tests. Consumers can either bring this with them or buy it on site. Unlike the quick test from the pharmacy, guests carry out the test themselves in front of the entrance. They then have to show the negative result to the employees. FOCUS Online advises: Clarify in advance whether spitting or sucking tests will be accepted. According to the current status, only swab tests (throat or nose) are valid and not all restaurateurs use the self-test, but rather rely on rapid antigen tests from the pharmacy or the test center.
Do i have to wear a mask?
Masks are still required on the entire grounds of the beer garden or the outdoor catering. This means that you have to put on your breathing mask (FFP2, KN95, medical or comparable) between the entrance area and the table. The same applies if you leave the table to go to the toilet or to get something to eat or drink when it is served.
It doesn’t matter whether you have recovered, tested, or fully vaccinated. Beer gardens and restaurant operators refer to the house rules and applicable infection protection laws. Guests seated at the table can take off their masks.

How many friends can I meet in the restaurant or in the beer garden?
The lower the incidence in a district or a city, the more households are allowed to meet.
Nationwide, meetings with a maximum of two households and five people are no problem.
Exceptions are regions where the federal emergency brake still applies. From an incidence of less than 35, meetings with up to three households and a maximum of ten people are also possible. Fully vaccinated and recovered are not counted – and they are allowed to meet as many fully vaccinated and recovered as they want.
