Where is Mitsotakis losing it with the brain drain, what is he playing with the “stasinoharta”, what is left for the PPC – Kotsovolos deal and will the apartment buildings be reduced or not…? – Financial Postman – 2024-03-09 22:55:05

They left

You will of course remember, during the years of the crisis, the mass flight of young scientists from the country. Young people “loaded” with qualifications and appetite for work, who were looking for decent jobs, mainly in other European countries. The mass exodus of doctors was particularly impressive!

They’re back(?)

Of course, many have returned. The’re is no doubt. However, about 250,000 – as many as the Minister of National Economy and Finance Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis estimated – still remain immigrants. And it doesn’t seem visible – for the moment at least – their return…

“Pay…”

And I remembered the recent exhortation of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the entrepreneurs of the tourism industry – but I think it has a more general reference in this case – “pay better”!

Drip

And indeed I will advocate at the urging of the prime minister, given that in a relevant investigation presented yesterday, the issue of wages, but also of working conditions, is one of the basic criteria for return. And as long as these do not improve, the return of qualified young people who have chosen Northern Europe will gradually take place….

In multinationals

But there is another parameter, which I think is extremely interesting. In order for the “migrants of the economic crisis” to return to Greece, most of them would like to work in multinational companies, rather than in Greek ones, let alone in small and medium ones! It is a fact that the working environment of multinational companies – by presumption – is clearly better than their Greek counterparts. In every level! From the amount of salaries to the working conditions.

Later

And I believe that if there are no other reasons – of a personal nature – there will not be a massive influx of Greeks in the country of Hesperia in the near future! Until at least the labor data of Greek companies improves!

The “stasinoharta”

The so-called “stasinoharta”, i.e. the shares of the companies of interests of the Stasinopoulos family, did not do well on the Athens Stock Exchange.

ElvalHalcor, Cenergy Holdings and Viohalco closed with losses. The largest (-5.83%) was recorded by the first listed company, apparently due to the decline in its financial figures for 2023, while the market, as it is said, expects similar results for Viohalco as well.

No question…

I don’t know if yesterday’s plunge of the “stasino papers” also affected the analysts during the teleconference of the CFO Mr. Spyros Kokkolis.

The presentation of the financial results lasted about half an hour. And when it came time for questions, the phone didn’t ring…

Of course, he himself gave an explanation saying that probably the analysts were covered by the presentation he made…

However, to be fair, the aluminum and copper sectors have prospects due to the megatrends in the international market (circular economy, etc.).

Let’s see…

Η Cenergy Holdings

However, in contrast to ElvalHalcor, Cenergy, the other “stasino paper”, announced impressive performances yesterday.

Not only that, its prospects are bright according to management as it maintains backlog in steel cables and pipes. Orders reached on December 31, 2023 over 3 billion euros.

As for the new projects and customers… What can I tell you, I got vertigo trying to measure the lengths and widths of the land where the subsidiaries “Hellenic Cables” and “Solinourgia Kalodia” are expanding, but also the heavy names of the customers…

Final straight

The decision of the Competition Commission for the approval of the acquisition of Dixons, which has the Kotsovolos chain of stores, by PPC was issued yesterday, as you would read from OT.

And now the way is opened for the completion of the deal, which was unprecedented for Greek business data.

It is not usual for an energy company to buy a large chain of electrical and electronics stores. And much more so a company that has the Greek government as its main shareholder.

The details

As I understand it takes about a month to close the deal.

Around April, unexpectedly it will be completed.

Details remain for the final sales contract and of course the payment of the price.

Everything indicates that there will be no problem…

The heights of the buildings

The decision of the Council of State (StE) on the heights of the buildings was made. According to information (even the summary of the decision has not yet been published) the judges of the 5th Department of the Supreme Court of Cassation ruled that the provisions for building “bonuses” in the height and volume of the buildings provided for by the New Building Regulation (NOK) in areas of “exclusive residence” as well as in those with special and worthy of protection urban planning features, are unconstitutional.

Plenary session of the CoE

However, as legal circles report, due to the seriousness of the issue, as it creates new urban data in the construction industry, the case was referred to the Plenary Session of the CoE in order to take a final decision on the constitutionality of the incentives given by the NOK for extra height and building. It should be recalled that residents and the Municipality of Alimos had appealed to the SC for the cancellation of a building permit that had been issued based on the provisions of the NOK and related to the reconstruction of an apartment building.
