Fierce is the political debate between the Government and the Opposition against the background of both the wiretapping and the incident with Anna Michel Asimakopoulou.
“I believe Asimakopoulou’s position”
“On the other hand, the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducts an investigation to see in general whether the lists it has meet the security criteria. We need to disconnect the postal vote with the lists that the voters have. Ms. Asimakopoulou states that the information she has does not come from lists of the Ministry of the Interior”, said the ND MP, speaking to MEGA. Thanos Pleuris.
“He has stated that he has collected the information during his time as an MEP. It does not say anywhere that it requested information, the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not provide information, it can provide electoral lists, not a contact phone number and email”.
“I believe Ms. Asimakopoulou’s position that she has collected them legally. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has clearly said that it has not given lists”, he adds.
On the wiretapping and Predator he said: “I have had a letter from the Privacy Authority and I am exercising my rights as a person who has been subject to illegal surveillance by Predator. If they call me, I will exercise all my rights.”
“The cases that are in the Court, the government has no possibility to intervene and indicate the way it will be done. The case of Predator is in Justice. If they call me, I will obviously exercise all my rights”, he adds.
As he emphasizes about the US investigation: “A completely different thing is controlled outside, which is connected to the Ministry of Finance and is important for companies operating in America. Here we have a case once the Justice has taken over, it automatically moves with the procedures and this whole part. Each state has its own procedures.”
“I don’t know which version to believe”
For his part, the SYRIZA MP, Petros Pappas, regarding Ms. Asimakopoulou, he told MEGA: “I don’t know exactly which of Ms. Asimakopoulou’s versions we should believe. Either there is some underground route between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ms. Asimakopoulou’s office, or we are talking about a completely leaky system in which personal data of citizens is being leaked. (…) We are talking about emails that were created in the last few days, they did not have them before, they created them to participate in the elections, so obviously they had not been gathered all these years”.
And he continued: “Were all these objections we had about the electronic voting system valid? We are talking about a scandal that threatens the voting itself.”
For the company of Stefanos Kasselakis
Regarding SYRIZA’s internal parties and the offshore company for which the party’s president Mr. Stefanos Kasselakis is controlled, he noted:
“We are impressed by the fact that at the moment a huge scandal breaks out that touches the essence of democracy and the vote and the cover-up attempted in Tempe crime (…) for the Justice to move with speed and willingness for an unintentional omission, possibly, of the president of SYRIZA, at a time when it is known that he is a businessman”.
“Now that he has information he will pass it on immediately and let the prosecutors come to check. After being informed that it should be transferred, it will be transferred.”
“The matter of Asimakopoulos is very serious”

Referring to the wiretapping scandal, Mr. Katrinis said: “In the investigation committee, the majority of the ND refuses to call the managers of the companies who have been convicted by the American justice system. Here comes a damning decision from the US that shows there is a dark case with many ramifications that the government has managed to cover up and be held accountable for.”
“The bill for non-state universities is a world first”
“It is not bad to have live and open processes, we are a democratic party and we have learned to discuss in detail. PASOK’s position is clear in relation to the bill, we say “yes” to non-state, non-profit but after a constitutional review. What PASOK says has nothing to do with what the government is bringing to vote today, which is a world first, non-profit branches of for-profit funds”.
“To open the debate on the right terms”
“There were some different approaches but there is a clear position, he wants to open this debate but in the right terms. We have a specific proposal, we have submitted it and we will act on it.”
The three MPs also referred to the Church’s “retaliation” against the state and political leadership for voting to extend marriage to same-sex couples.
