When will the pandemic end? | Today.dir.bg

The future does not look so bleak at all – a real calming of the situation can be expected from spring onwards, the pandemic will pass, said epidemiologist Klaus Störr, a longtime WHO official.

“The future doesn’t look so bleak at all – a real calming of the situation can be expected from spring onwards. The pandemic will pass,” epidemiologist Klaus Störr, a longtime WHO official, told Munich Mercury. “Despite some infections, everything will be normal in the summer,” the expert is convinced.

Before that, however, a severe winter is ahead in Germany – predicts Stör. “The number of new infections among young people will increase, but this is not the real problem – it consists of a large number of unimmunized over 60 years, namely they are still completely vulnerable to the virus. This can lead to a dramatic increase in severe cases in winter and the need for hospital treatment. Therefore, measures must be taken and efforts must be made to advance immunizations. “

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 60.3 percent of Germans are fully immunized, and 65 percent are given the first dose. But as experts point out, a quota of 85 percent is needed to achieve group immunity. At the same time, there are experts who say that achieving group immunity will not be possible, including due to the fact that immunized people also get Kovid-19 and can spread the infection.

Klaus Störr identifies vaccinations as the main tool in the fight against the coronavirus. It is already known that even if they become infected, the immunized make the disease much easier, a very small part of them need hospital treatment and die, the expert points out. Therefore, his recommendation is to intensify the immunization process, as well as to start with the third dose in the fall. Probably under these circumstances his predictions will come true and the pandemic will pass.
