When Will NYC and State Residents See Payments – NBC New York (47)

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday that all New York households enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for July.

SNAP benefits have been crucial to the livelihood of many New Yorkers, including about 14% of the state’s population last year.

As of May 2022, nearly 1.6 million households statewide have signed up for the program.

THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • All SNAP recipients, including those already at the maximum benefit level, will receive supplemental assistance.
  • Households currently at or near the maximum benefit level ($835 for a household of four) will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95.
  • Benefits will be paid between July 15 and July 30.
  • SNAP households in all counties outside of New York City should see supplemental benefits post to their accounts between Friday, July 15 and Friday, July 22. SNAP households within the five boroughs should see the benefits post between Tuesday, July 19 and Saturday, July 2. 30

Supplemental benefits are paid like regular SNAP.

Payments will be sent directly to recipients’ existing Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) accounts and can be accessed with existing EBT cards. Like regular benefits, supplemental benefits can be used at authorized retail food stores. Any unused benefit will automatically roll over to the next month.

It is estimated that $234 million in federal funds will be pumped into New York’s economy as a result of the additional benefits. Since January, the program has contributed more than $1.2 billion to the state’s economy, playing a critical role in the state’s economic recovery from the pandemic.

According to a recent federal study which quantifies the impact of the program, SNAP generates up to $1.54 in economic activity for every federal dollar invested in the program.
