Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– When is the end of the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) still the biggest mystery in the world today. However, Microsoft founder Bill Gates has his own predictions when Covid-19 ends, or at least can be controlled.
“I think by the end of 2021, Covid will be behind us,” said Bill Gates answering questions to the pandemic that will be completed as reported by Paris Matchs, Friday (07/08/2020).
Gates estimates the death rate could still increase in the next 3-4 months. Estimates globally could increase to 1 million deaths. If the treatment can take place well according to him then the death rate should be less than 1.5 million people.
“But this scenario if the vaccine or drug is immediately available,” said Bill Gates reported from Paris Match, Friday (07/08/2020).
For the treatment of Covid-19 patients, according to him, the cure must be found no later than this year. There are several competing technologies, one of which is monoclonal antibody which, according to him, brings hope.
“Nevertheless the vaccine is still expected to be present at the end of 2020 in the best scenario, or in semester I-2021. After that, it must be approved, then disseminated, and the main challenge is for those who have the most need but will not have the means to buy it, “Gates said.
This can happen in developing countries, and according to him the foundation he has is working on a solution. According to Gates it has funded many science projects that are trying to produce vaccines on a large scale.
“Every day I talk to laboratory leaders that I try to match with compatible manufacturers in India, or other places that will soon produce billions of doses. So we work with a large number of candidates by sharing profiles, and this makes us happy and optimistic,” said Gates.
He also told that before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, he regretted not acting faster. According to him if he acted faster and invested in the right tools, he should be able to overcome the coming of this pandemic and avoid this disaster. In 2018, Gates had written a scientific journal about controlling a pandemic.
“Obviously we are not successful, even if several initiatives have tried to respond to this problem,” Gates said.
He also worried about the damage caused by this pandemic to the global economy, the health system especially in developing countries. This war against the pandemic makes it more difficult to fight malaria or HIV.
