Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Candidate candidate for Covid-19 vaccine made by Sinovac Biotech has arrived in Indonesia, yesterday (07/20/2020). If phase three clinical trials to humans are successful, this vaccine will be produced in the first quarter of 2021.
A number of photos of Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Indonesia and are already widely circulated on WhatsApp Group. This vaccine trial will be carried out in Bandung, West Java.
The news of the presence of this vaccine was confirmed by the Special Staff of the Minister of SOEs Arya Sinulingga. “We really hope that after completion of clinical trials and testing it can also be produced in Indonesia. Some countries are indeed inviting us to work together,” said Arya Sinulingga in a virtual press conference on Monday (7/20/2020).
This third phase of clinical trials is carried out domestically and will begin in August 2020. Bio Farma President Director Honesti Basyir said the company had prepared a maximum production capacity of 250 million doses. Production will begin 6 months after the vaccine is tested on the sample.
“If the clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine phase 3 runs smoothly, Bio Farma will produce it in the upcoming Q1-2021, and we have prepared its production facilities at Bio Farma, with a maximum production capacity of 250 million doses,” Honesti said in a statement, quoted Tuesday (7/21/2020).
This third phase of clinical trials will be carried out at the Faculty of Medicine, Padjajaran University involving as many as 1,620 subjects with an age range between 18 – 59 years, with certain criteria.
While the remainder of the vaccine will be used for lab tests in several laboratories including Bio Farma and the National Food and Drug Testing Center (PPOMN).
In the clinical trial of Covid-19 vaccine, Bio Farma acts as a sponsor, collaborating with various parties including the Republic of Indonesia Health Research and Development Agency (Balitbangkes) of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, as a medical advisor and implementation of the neutralizing antibody titer test.
In addition to Baltbangkes, Bio Farma also collaborates with BPOM RI as a regulator, and of course with FK UNPAD as an institution that has experience in conducting clinical trials of vaccines circulating in Indonesia.
The development of the Covid-19 vaccine, is one of five Bio Farma scenarios, in dealing with the spread of the COV2 SARS virus that causes Covid-19, among others, the production of Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), Convalent Plasma Therapy, Mobile Laboratory BSL 3, and Making Viral Transport Media (VTM).
