For years now, the Fisco has been carrying out carpet checks on the Italian current accounts, in order to combat tax evasion and money laundering.
In this article we replied to a reader who asked us if he could pay 10 thousand euros in cash without taking risks with the taxman.
Today, however, we respond to those who ask us when checks are made on cash payments.
When checks are made on cash payments
We assume that cash money payments can always raise a high degree of doubt in the tax authorities.
The Financial Administration, in fact, can ask the taxpayer the origin of the money paid into the current account when it intercepts suspicious transactions.
The Tax Office intervenes when it notices the presence of sums of money that do not comply with what the taxpayer declares in the tax return.
In fact, the payment of cash money made to the bank or postal account is not in itself the element that initiates the verification by the Fisco.
However, it is the element that contributes to the verification if the income received by the taxpayer is inconsistent with the payment.
Imagine a typical account holder who receives a salary of one thousand euros per month who suddenly begins to pay sums equal to or greater than 3 thousand euros.
In this case, the bank receiving the payments could alert the Inland Revenue to verify suspicious transactions.
What the account holder must do in these cases
The account holder in these cases, must prove the origin of that money paid into the current account.
He must therefore present proof that justifies the payment made in cash.
He must prove that that money has a certain origin. Maybe they are the result of a donation, a gift and why not also of dependent work.
To do this you need to show a written test such as private writing.
Turning to a practical example, the Tax Department intervenes when the employee with a salary of 1,400 euros per month pays into his account.
