When can 5G Internet be used by all Indonesian citizens? This is the leak

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – This year marks Indonesia’s entry into the 5G era. However, so far only a few cities have been able to access this service and not all handsets are connected to the network.

Some cities that already have 5G services are Greater Jakarta, Solo, Medan, Balikpapan, Denpasar, Batam, Surabaya, Makassar, Balikpapan and Bandung. So far, only three operators have obtained licenses for commercially deploying 5G, namely Telkomsel, Indosat, and XL Axiata.

Then when will the existence of 5G be massive in Indonesia?

Jerry Soper, Head of Ericsson Indonesia explained that there are many tools to improve network capabilities and bring more traffic. He predicts that in the next few years, he will be able to see a much wider and more reachable service.

“Maybe in the next few years I’m sure we will start to see services become wider and have more reach,” said Jerry, in an online discussion, Wednesday (6/10/2021).

But he added that with more spectrum available will be followed by even faster network rollouts.

Head of Network Solutions Ericsson Indonesia, Ronni Nurmal, said that apart from the network, he also saw the penetration of 5G handsets. Currently, there are more and more devices that support the network and are sold at lower prices.

“Now that 5G handsets are getting cheaper, the more they buy 5G handsets. Operators will also increasingly accept demand so that 5G is developed even faster. To reach areas where users already have ready-made handsets,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added about the frequency spectrum. According to him, all spectrum is important for 5G networks, even though there were challenges at 2.3 Ghz, he thought it was growing quite fast too.

Including the handsets that support the network, the price is dropping rapidly.

According to him, with so many spectrums, operators can provide even better services.

“Actually, the more spectrum operators they have, they will be able to provide better services for their customers, either 2,3, 3.5 or existing bands now. It depends on the positioning of the 5G service,” he explained.
