If we did a survey among WhatsApp users about what function they are waiting for like may water, sure a majority would point to allowing the use of the same account from several devices at the same time: either a tablet, a smartphone, a computer or any other device with an internet connection. That is to say, that it is finally possible to leave the work phone at home and go outside with only ours, having the complete guarantee that we can be aware of what happens in our boss’s chat (for example) .
And is that that’s one of the longest-awaited promises by users that, to this day, are still anchored to a single device that is their main phone and, at most, a computer where they have the web or desktop version of WhatsApp active. Thus, it seems that very soon we will have news in this field, at least if we trust the leaks that come from the sources they are testing beta versions.
Full functionality on multiple devices
That is the objective they pursue from WhatsApp and the reason why today we are still waiting for it to be implemented in the final versions. A multi-device function that will not only be limited to letting us write in chats and participate in conversations but also to offer us the basic functions of both voice and video calls. It would be useless to use the application on a second device if it offers some of its limited features, so it makes perfect sense to emphasize full functionality.
And there come the calls that WhatsApp is testing to allow them to work in the same way without looking from which device we are making them. Remember that the web and desktop versions do not enjoy those voice or video communications right now although they are on the way, and the same will happen with support on multiple devices at the same time. According to WABetaInfo, “WhatsApp is currently testing calls when the multiple device is configured for the same account between different devices since last week. There is no release date available.”
When these functions are operational, we can send or receive calls and, more importantly, join one already started in the case of those that are in a group. This option is very important because it prevents those who call us from having to leave the current chat and create a new one with us already inside. With this operational function, it will be possible to access or leave without fear of being left out.
Of what there is no doubt is that, once 2020 is over, where we had many relevant news about WhatsApp, it will be the next 2021 when we can truly fulfill that old dream of to be able to talk to our accounts in the app messaging from different devices: mobiles, tablets or whatever.
