Establishment of China’s first COVID-19 Department

The Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center established China’s first COVID-19 Department with closed-circuit management, to standardize the management and treatment of infectious diseases, but also to ensure that the epidemic of new coronavirus is quickly contained as new variants appear.

As a designated hospital for the treatment of adult patients affected by COVID-19, the center has accumulated a wealth of experience in the clinical treatment of coronavirus over the past year. More than 1000 imported patients have recently been treated in the center.

The Shanghai Clinical Public Health Center has already published several important academic works on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and rehabilitation of the disease. He also participated in the drafting of the Consensus of experts on the global treatment of the coronavirus in Shanghai, laying a solid foundation for the establishment of its “Department against COVID-19”.

“Due to the gloomy current global outlook with prevention and control of COVID-19 expected to last longer than initially anticipated, as well as the emergence of special variants of the virus, coronavirus response measures have been put up-to-date and thorough to ensure its control, ”said Shen Yinzhong, director of the Department of Medical Administration of the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, on Sunday.

This department will be set up as a sub-department affiliated with the Department of Infectious Diseases. Led by a team specializing in severe respiratory diseases, it will be made up of a multidisciplinary team involving intensive care, respiratory care, nutrition and rehabilitation, which should promote the development of global disciplines and strengthen the training of medical personnel. .

In addition, the department will offer a new closed-circuit management method during public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 epidemic, with close links between diagnosis, hospitalization, treatment, follow-up, imaging. and medical examinations, to prevent nosocomial infections.

“It is possible that similar diseases will emerge in the future. This is the reason why we need to better prepare and standardize procedures and working standards, ”Shen Yinzhong said.
