WhatsApp tests ‘New File’ function to hide conversations

O WhatsApp is testing a feature that the user should allow archive conversations permanently, allowing it to “hide” an unwanted chat within the app itself. The “New File” function has been available since May for anyone using the beta version for iPhone (iOS).

According to information from the WABetaInfo website, which specializes in news about the WhatsApp, the user can silence archived chats, which will not be automatically unarchived when a new message is received. This is currently the default adopted by the application.

To use the “New Archive”, just access the settings menu, click on “Conversations” and activate the function “Keep archived chats”. Those who do not want to use the feature will continue in the old system, in which whenever a new message is received, the archived conversation is automatically unarchived.

Although it looks very secretive, the user with hidden messages will have a notice pinned on the homepage indicating that there are archived chats. Also according to WABetaInfo, it will not be possible to delete the notice, which must also show information such as the number of unread messages and mentions to the user.

The feature that will allow the user to “hide” conversations within the app does not yet have an official release date for the standard version of WhatsApp.
