“And we’ve added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you enable it for the created groups. This feature is made optional and doesn’t modify or delete existing chats.”

WhatsApp added that if you activate this feature, there will be a notification about this in the chat for the other person to know about it.

“This makes it clear if not a personal matter, this is a choice made regarding how you want to communicate with everyone on WhatsApp going forward,” the company said.

In addition to the default features, WhatsApp also announced adding two new durations to the Disappearing Messages. In addition to the 7 day option, there are currently 24 hours and 90 days.

According to WhatsApp, the presence of this feature will define the meaning of private messaging services today. Besides also making the Meta subsidiary closer to private conversation activities.

“We believe disappearing messages with end-to-end encryption are the two features that define what it means to be a private messaging service today, and bring us closer to the feeling of one-to-one conversation,” WhatsApp said.

In WhatsApp’s FAQ page, the company describes a way to enable the disappearing messages feature by default for individual chats.

The way for Android and iPhone users is to open Settings/After WhatsApp > click Account > Privacy > Default message timer, then select the duration.

If this option is not available on your smartphone, you have to update WhatsApp to the latest version.
