WhatsApp allows users to easily delete messages, both for messages received and those sent to other users. Not only that, WhatsApp seems to be developing an ‘undo delete’ feature to restore deleted messages.
This new feature was first reported by WABetaInfo who discovered it in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.13.5. This feature is currently under development so it is not yet available for beta testers.
WABetaInfo said this feature would be very useful for users who mistakenly deleted messages. For example, when a user wants to delete a message that was mis-sent for everyone in the group but instead selects the ‘delete for me’ option.
Because of the wrong press, other group members can still see the message they want to delete but the sender can’t even see it because it has been deleted from their chat. Fortunately, thanks to the ‘undo delete’ feature being developed by WhatsApp, a disaster like this was averted.
From the preview screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, when a user accidentally deletes a message after selecting the ‘delete for me’ option, WhatsApp will display a snackbar at the bottom of the screen.

This snackbar reads ‘Undo’ which can be clicked by the user to restore accidentally deleted messages, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Sunday (5/6/2022).
Once this feature is publicly released, users only have a few seconds to lag to click the Undo button and cancel the message deletion process, so move quickly. Once deleted messages are returned, users can delete them immediately for everyone in the group.
Currently the ‘undo delete’ feature is still being developed by WhatsApp. It is not yet known when this feature will be available for beta testers and released for all WhatsApp users.
