While Apple is known to be developing a foldable (screen-folding) phone, it is predicted that the first foldable iPhone will be released in 2023.

According to foreign media such as Gizchina on the 12th (local time), market research firm Omdia predicted that Apple will release a foldable phone that adopts OLED (organic light-emitting diode) with a screen size of 7.3 to 7.6 inches two years later. The material is expected to use tempered ceramic glass that does not break even when folded.

It is known that Apple has also developed a design that hides the hinge part inside the case to complete a smooth foldable phone. It is said to prevent dust from entering the device. It costs 8GB (gigabyte) of RAM and 1TB (terabyte) of storage space, and the price is expected to be around $1,500 (about 1.66 million won).

According to counterpoint research, a market research firm, Apple shipped 81.9 million smartphones with market share thanks to the effect of releasing the first 5G (5th generation) smartphone’iPhone 12′ in the fourth quarter (October-December). It ranked first with 21%. Samsung Electronics followed with 16% (62.5 million units). While Huawei, China, which is subject to US sanctions, was pushed back, Xiaomi shipped 43 million units, ranking in third place.

Experts analyze that Apple has strengthened its position in the Chinese smartphone premium segment. According to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, two out of three premium smartphones sold in China are Apple products.
