What were those strange lights that lit up the skies of California, Arizona, and Las Vegas? – Telemundo Phoenix / Tucson

PHOENIX – Users on social networks in Arizona, Las Vegas and California reported seeing a trail of lights in the sky at night this Thursday, May 5.

Some viewers caught lights moving across the sky in a single line, while others claim to have seen them move from west to north.

In Arizona, sightings were reported in areas such as Queen Creek, Surprise, Lake Pleasant and Duncan, around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Seattle reported that a SpaceX rocket launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida is the likely cause of the phenomenon.

According to the SpaceX site, Starlink is the constellation of Internet communication satellites. The constellation is designed to provide fast Internet service to places where terrestrial Internet is unreliable, unavailable, or expensive. Starlink 24, which would likely be the cause of the lights tonight, launched 60 satellites.

A similar event was observed in April 2020, when people saw multiple lights moving across the sky from the southwest to the northeast.
