The platforms streaming musical They have grown little by little in recent years to now be the main source for listening to music, also in Galicia. It is easy to understand: we have in the palm of our hand all the songs, albums, concerts or podcasts that we can imagine.
Among the most important platforms to access various content we can find Apple Music, Youtube, Amazon Prime Music or Soundcloud, but without a doubt, the one with the most audience is Spotify. This ended the first quarter of 2021 generating 2,147 million euros with 356 million users monthly assets worldwide.
Something that Spotify is known for is its playlistsBoth of their own (and personal) creation by the user and those that are prepared by the platform team. We have lists for everything and everything: to cook, to relax, to study, to party, old rock, songs from the 2000s, trap, ballads or classical music.
Besides the Top 50, there are also other geographic lists like The Sound of, which is governed by patterns and by the algorithm of the songs most listened to by users in that area specific. On Galicia we find three: The Sound of A Coruña, The Sound of Santiago de Compostela and The Sound of Vigo.
The most popular music in A Coruña, Santiago and Vigo
The Sound of A Coruña starts with a Munheira de Chantada de Verto, but it goes around many times passing through Tanxugueiras, Dorian, Los Planetas, Hard GZ, Aitana, Recycled J, Loquillo, Sen Senra, Xoel López, Vetusta Morla or New Carminha. It is evident that listeners from A Coruña point to both Spanish and Galician products.
For another band, the playlist of The Sound of Santiago It has not been updated for almost a year, but anyway it is very similar to the one in A Coruña. In this we find artists like Boyanka Kostova, Nettle (part of the duo named above) with the manor, Ivan Ferreiro, Erin, Bad Gyal, Fernando Costa, Ezetaerre and even The Dominican Combo with Give it old.
The list of the olive city, The Sound of Vigo, includes more songs in Galician than the two named above. In this we find artists like Heredeiros da Crus, Sés, Dakidarria, Escampe attack, SonDaRúa, Terbutaline, Guadi Galego, Xabier Díaz, Os Resentidos and even Ana Kiro. The new platforms of streaming musical open the doors to the world of new artists and emerging, as is the case of Verto, Boyanka Kostova, Ortiga or Sen Senra, in the Galician case, or Bad Gyal, Fernando Costa, Recycled J, in Spanish.
What these playlists show is that listeners in Galicia bet on local products, counting on the fact that most of the artists and groups are from Galician origin. The lists are completed with music in the Spanish language, barely leaving room for international proposals.
Although the globalization has reached us and we have all the artists of the world in our hands, we prefer to listen to people with our roots and with whom we feel related.
