Greener, more spacious, more modern, less expensive to maintain … The gestation of the TGV M is progressing before the factory leaves this “train of the future” and its commissioning scheduled for June 2024, in time for the paris olympics, indicated the SNCF.
What will be the differences between this new TGV and its predecessors? In 2018, the former CEO of the SNCF group Guillaume Pépy unveiled on RTL some concrete innovations. The clims, previously positioned along the windows, will now be positioned above the seats, and filters will be installed to improve air quality and prevent customers from catching a cold. Other details : the windows will be enlarged and this new TGV should be quieter.
Alain Krakovitch, director of Voyages SNCF, told AFP other features of the train. It will be possible to configure the interior fittings, transform a first class into a second, and to use it in Inoui format as in Ouigo format. A way of limit costs, he specifies.
The TGV M should also be more ecological and accessible. Designed “in close collaboration” with wheelchair user associations, the train will allow people with disabilities to board independently, and the toilets will also be redesigned. The TGV is designed with 97% recyclable materials and will emit 32% less CO2 than current trains, with energy consumption reduced by 20% and a maintenance cost of 30%.
As far as users are concerned, they can now modulate their lighting, and will benefit from a wifi and remote control service. The train will also be able to accommodate up to 740 passengers, a capacity 20% greater than before.
