Jeonbuk promoted coach Kim Sang-sik, former chief coach, to the next command tower. Lee Ju-e is planning to finalize his contract with goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae and Kim Doo-hyun. Coach Kim returned from Qatar after completing the Asian Football Federation Champions League (ACL) and quarantined on the 25th. Together with the existing coaches Ahn Jae-seok and Park Won-jae playing coach, the two will play the role of a division to assist Kim.
Unfortunately, coaches Lee Woon-jae and Kim Doo-hyun are legends of Suwon Samsung, an emotional rival with Jeonbuk. Coach Lee Woon-jae made his professional debut in Suwon in 1996 and played 15 years until 2010. He had won the K-League four times in Suwon and was a goalkeeper who led the team’s golden age. From 2017 to 2018, he worked as a coach in Suwon. Coach Doo-Hyun Kim also played an active part from 2001 to 2005, returned to Suwon in 2009 after passing through Seongnam Ilhwa and West Bromwich Albion (England). After retiring from active duty last year, he took on the coaching position this year. Both leaders are characters loved by Suwon fans.
On the other hand, the recruitment of coaches Lee Woon-jae and Kim Doo-hyun, who have no ties with Jeonbuk, succeeded at Kim’s strong request. Coach Kim wanted to secure a coach with rich experience and leadership as the team started anew. To do this, he moved quickly under the water, and both coaches agreed. Jeonbuk-do took the intention of coach Kim positively and signed the contract. In general, coaches extend their contracts by one year, but at the request of manager Kim, the contract period for coaches is tied to two years. It means that coaching staff including director Kim are tied up as a kind of’destiny community’ and connected with a stronger sense of bond. With the joining of coach Lee Woon-jae, Jeonbuk can expect Song Beom-geun to improve his skills. Coach Lee Woon-jae, who is considered the best goalkeeper of all time, was particularly good at defending penalty kicks during his active career.
