What is at stake in these elections – and why I vote for Ana Gomes | Opinion

Next Sunday, if they comply with the law, tens of thousands of Portuguese will not vote infected with covid-19 or in isolation, who thus lost their right to vote because they were sick – and because it was decided to keep a presidential election date in the middle of a pandemic. According to the accounts I have seen, there may be about two hundred thousand voters who are thus denied the right to vote, to which must be added the many emigrants who were also unable, in practice, to exercise their civic right. Those who decide to vote in violation of the law will put the lives of others at risk.
