TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- Biblical courses and various workshops has taken Juan Antonio Hernandez during your stay at the Manhattan Metropolitan Correctional Center, New York, where he is being held for the crime of drug trafficking.

Among the religious studies that the Honduran has received in prison in the United States are “The 12-session anger management group”; “Course of the Book of Acts”, Volume 1 and 2; “Biblical Doctrine Volume 1” and the “Course The Gospel of John”.

Hernández’s courses and diplomas were included in defense attorney Peter E. Brill’s arguments to request Judge Kevin Castell a minimum sentence of 40 years for his client.

Accusations

During Tony Hernández’s trial in 2019, prosecutors charged to President Juan Orlando Hernández of having accepted bribes from drug traffickers to finance his electoral campaign for the presidency. The lawyer also said that his client “was arrested and charged in a foreign land, by a foreign power, for crimes he allegedly committed in his own country.”

“The days of America acting as the world’s policeman are not over,” he added.

Prosecutors in the case have assured that Tony Hernández should be sentenced to life imprisonment for leading “a criminal drug trafficking association sponsored by the State” together with President Hernández.

Judge Kevin Castel, who will sentence Tony Hernández On Tuesday, he just presided over a trial of Geovanny Fuentes Ramírez, a Honduran accused of drug trafficking and possession of weapons. The name of President Hernández also came up many times in that trial due to the insistence of prosecutors that the president partly financed his political career with drug money.
