At WWDC 2020, Apple showed iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 11 Big Sur and watchOS 7 as well as tvOS 14. This is not exactly a surprise after the company presents new operating systems every year at its developer event. Sure, there was still the switch to ARM – a trend-setting decision from Apple.
But a look into the past shows that Apple has by no means presented everything that was imagined in advance, as well 9to5Mac reported.
Apple AirTags
In spring 2019 there were first leaks for iOS 13. Back then it was said that Apple wanted to combine the apps “iPhone search” and “Friends” and to equip the new app with a search function for other items. In addition, a tile-like tracker for items such as backpacks, bags and other belongings should appear. In iOS 13.2 there was even the alleged brand name “AirTag”. The device should use both ultra-wideband and Bluetooth, but where is it?
iMac
A 23-inch entry-level iMac should actually be presented at WWDC 2020, preferably with an ARM processor. The device is said to even appear in a new design. It was also speculated that Apple heralds the move away from regular HDD hard drives and relies entirely on SSD storage. And what came? Nothing.
Over-Ears AirPods
Then there was the rumor that Apple will launch its first over-ear headphones under its own brand after the AirPods were previously just earplugs. Nothing was to be seen of this either, but a software update for the AirPods Pro was announced, which should give these models a pseudo surround sound.
New Apple TV
Sure, the current Apple TV 4K is three years old, but there were rumors beforehand that Apple will launch a new set-top box – especially with a faster processor to enable more gaming power. And here is a sentence with X, that was probably nothing.
