What about coronavirus vaccines that are about to go to waste? Dworczyk announces changes

The head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government’s plenipotentiary for vaccination, Michał Dworczyk, informed in Lubin that on Tuesday the ordinance would be changed, thanks to which, when there is a risk of wasting the vaccine, it will be possible to use it. He added that such a vaccine could be given to any adult.

– Tomorrow, the regulation will be changed, thanks to which, when there is a risk of wasting the vaccine, it can be used for anyone over 18 years of age – Minister Michał Dworczyk said on Monday in Lubin at a joint conference with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the headquarters of KGHM Polska Miedź.

– These rules have so far been subject to slightly stronger restrictions. Now we are loosening them, because we are at this stage of vaccination, where we need to respond to the current situation, also adapting to the current possibilities in terms of access and the number of preparations – added the minister.

He emphasized that, following the guidelines of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the government is accelerating, on the one hand, the registration for specific vaccination dates, and on the other hand, changing the system so that it flexibly adjusts to the current situation, so that Poles can vaccinate as easily as possible.

“From May 10, we will be able to speed up the registration process”

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the vaccination rate will be adjusted to the supply of vaccines. – We must submit the entire registration system to this, and because we have successfully completed negotiations with the European Commission on obtaining additional millions of doses of Pfizer. This will speed up the deadline by a week, he explained.

He added that the pressure on suppliers turns out to be very effective and new contracts with suppliers also protect the interests of Polish citizens. – That is why from May 10, we will be able to speed up the registration process – announced the head of government.

As he noted, the vaccination program is to be a breakthrough in the fight against the epidemic.

“Schedule with all details will be presented tomorrow”

The head of the prime minister’s office recalled that flexibility is needed in this matter, which is due to the uncertainty of delivery times. He added that from May 10, all persons over 18 years of age will be able to register for specific vaccination dates.

– We will not activate these records for all yearbooks on one day, we will open entries for subsequent years on the following days. And this schedule with all details will be presented tomorrow – he informed.

When is the release of restrictions?

During the press conference, the head of the government was asked about the pre-pandemic habits of people who had already been vaccinated and when it might be. – With the growing number of vaccinated people, it will be possible to increase economic freedoms and loosen various social restrictions concerning, inter alia, assemblies, meetings and concerts, which were implemented some time ago – replied Morawiecki.

He stressed that the pace of recovery depends on how many people get vaccinated and how quickly. – I am convinced that the responsibility of Poles will be full and that we will be able, as one of the first European countries, to return to normalcy – he added.

The Prime Minister recalled that the total of 2.5 million people have been vaccinated with the first and second dose so far, but – as he pointed out – the first dose, according to epidemiologists, significantly protects against a very severe and tragic course of the disease. – So it’s worth it, it is really worth overcoming any doubts, because this is the only and fastest way to return to normalcy – he argued.

Common immunization points

On Monday, the first mainstream vaccination centers started operating. Initially, as part of the pilot program, sixteen facilities will be launched, one in each voivodeship.

Ultimately, there will be 471 of them across the country. Points in towns of up to 50,000 inhabitants are to vaccinate 200 people daily, and in towns of over 50,000 – at least half a thousand.

There are approximately 6,500 vaccination points in Poland. Together with the new ones, there will be almost 7,000 of them.

As indicated in the government requirements for the universal vaccination point program, “ultimately, in each poviat (or city with poviat status) there should be at least 2 large vaccination points functioning as General Vaccination Points: one PWDL (population vaccination point), preferably a hospital with a high vaccination potential, the second as an element of the network coordinated by voivodes – organized “from scratch” by local governments in cooperation with a selected entity performing medical activities (PWDL) and in agreement with the National Health Fund.

Dworczyk: The first 16 pilot universal vaccination points will start next week. The first – in Legnica TVN24

New points should, as a rule, be organized outside the current network of medical facilities, for example in a community center, in the form of tents or drive-thru points. Vaccinations in new centers will be carried out by vaccination teams, one team consisting of 1-4 people. On average, one team should be able to complete a minimum of 100 vaccinations per day.

At each vaccination point, a person experienced in first aid must be available: doctor or paramedic – at least one doctor or paramedic for 4 vaccination teams. Additionally, at each point, the participation of people responsible for patient traffic control and ensuring compliance with sanitary and safety rules is recommended. For this purpose, local governments will be able to use the help of volunteers or the support of the State and Volunteer Fire Brigades, Municipal Police, Territorial Defense Forces or other services.
