WFH uses the Samsung Galaxy M51, “charges” every other day

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Samsung has again strengthened the M series, a large battery line, with the Galaxy M51, offering a super large battery of over 6,000mAh.

Samsung Electronics Indonesia embeds the jargon #SobatAntiLowbat and #XtremePower for the M51, which are predicted to be champions for playing games.

ANTARA tried this device to work full time from home, mainly replacing the laptop during webinars. The results did not disappoint and deserved thumbs up.

Design

The first impression seeing this cellphone, is almost no different from the Galaxy A71, the cellphone body looks quite long with a spacious screen.

Once in your hand, this phone feels thicker than the A71, maybe because the battery size embedded in this phone is much larger than the A series.

The body of the Galaxy M51 cellphone is a combination of glass on the front and a mixture of plastic on the back, however, it is shiny so it looks like glass, while providing a luxurious effect.

Unfortunately, the rear body gets dirty very quickly when held, the user’s fingerprints will make an impression on the cellphone body.

The Galaxy M51 phone comes with dimensions of 164.1 x 76.5 x 9.5 millimeters and weighs 213 grams, about 20 grams heavier than its predecessor in the Galaxy M series. However, this phone is still relatively light, as long as it is not given a heavy casing.

With this size, the Galaxy M is comfortable when held horizontally, such as when playing games.

When used vertically, if the user has small hands, there are times when you need to operate with two hands when you want to tap the application at the very top of the screen.

The Galaxy M51 uses a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, decorated with a punch hole, or Samsung calls it Infinity-O, in the middle so that users can more freely stare at the cellphone.

At the back, there are four cameras in the letter “L”, as well as an ivory white circle for flash.

Like other cellphones circulating in Indonesia, the right side of the cellphone contains the volume button and power button which also functions as a fingerprint scanner.

The Galaxy M51’s power button is flat, perfect for scanning your thumb when you want to unlock it. This sensor can be pressed like a physical power button, to turn off, turn on the cellphone, or a combination lock with volume down to take a screenshot.

For owners of small hands, taking screenshots manually like that is a bit of a hassle because the cellphone feels slippery, especially in the horizontal position.

The Galaxy M series still uses a 3.5 millimeter audio port, which is located under the phone. Charging the Galaxy M51 using USB Type-C to support fast charging.

Performance when WFH

The main feature on the Galaxy M51 is a 7,000mAh battery, which is claimed to last 182 hours of listening to music.

ANTARA deliberately used this phone for several days to work from home, replacing the laptop function. During WFH, journalists used their cell phones to participate in webinars, wrote in the default Note and Microsoft Office applications, made phone calls, the WhatsApp instant messaging application, email, and opened tabs on search engines to dig up information.

When used for video conferencing for one hour, the Galaxy M51 drains only 7 percent of battery power, reduced from 98 percent to 91 percent.

The battery saver mode was not turned on at that time because the battery was still very low.

The settings used at that time, location and Bluetooth were turned off, while auto-rotate mode or screen rotation was turned on. Audio during video conferencing relies on the built-in speaker of the phone.

Meanwhile, for internet connection, fully use Wi-Fi.

After using the webinar, the cellphone is actively used for work again, until 14:22 the remaining battery charge is 84 percent.

The cellphone is again used for video conferencing for 57 minutes, only requires 4% battery, aka reduced to 80 percent.

During the “office hour” work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ANTARA only used up about 25 percent of the battery, aka 75 percent of the remaining power.

Physical activities outside the home are of course limited during this pandemic, and entertainment is not far from your cell phone.

Apart from accessing social media such as YouTube and Twitter, this cellphone is also used to watch movies on a streaming platform for 30 minutes.

Until 22.30 on the first day of WFH with the Galaxy M51, the cellphone battery still had 61 percent left.

The second day, at 09.00 the battery percentage is still at 55 percent. The cellphone was again used for video conferencing at 10:00 am, the power started from 53 percent.

During one hour, the task consumes about 5 percent to 7 percent of the power. At 12:37 p.m., there was still 44 percent battery power, which was used for calls, text messages, e-mails and accessing social media.

New cellphone batteries are charged at 6:35 p.m., when the battery shows 20 percent, the last limit before “lowbat”. To charge up to 100 percent, it takes about 1 hour 45 minutes with the 25W fast-charging feature.

The duration of charging from 0 to full 100 percent does not differ much, about 1 hour 49 minutes. During those two days, the Galaxy M51 only charged once.

Samsung has provided the Galaxy M51 with very capable RAM for carrying out heavy tasks, 8 RAM, the equivalent of a dedicated gaming cellphone.

When used to work, especially when multitasking opens two applications in one screen, everything can run smoothly without any “lag”, let alone “crash” or the application exits itself.

As for the internal storage capacity, the Galaxy M51 provides 128GB of space, large enough to fit more than two video conferencing applications. This capacity can still be expanded with a memory card up to 512GB, which is deemed unnecessary unless the user makes this device specifically for gaming and wants to put all the games on one cellphone.

When used to play the Genshin Impact game, the performance of this cellphone is very satisfying, besides the large RAM it provides, it is also thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chip which is designed to support gaming performance.

During two hours of playing Genshin Impact, the battery used was 19 percent, from full 100 percent to 81 percent. There is no “lag” during gaming, this phone has a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Camera

The Galaxy M51 comes with a “quad camera” or four camera technology, on the back. Samsung is targeting this phone to be used by content creators so that it provides a large enough resolution for the main camera, namely 64MP.

From the camera point of view, you haven’t felt anything “wow”, because this technology is also used in other mobile phones. Even so, for creating content, or capturing daily activities, this resolution is sufficient to produce sharp images indoors, such as the following example.

The Galaxy M51 also has a 123-degree ultra-wide angle lens of 12MP, making it easier for users to take a wider landscape from the same point, no need to step back.

Here is a comparison using the main lens and the ultra-wide angle lens.

Samsung has also embedded artificial intelligence in this cellphone, which will automatically adjust lighting and color according to the detected subject on the screen.

When used for photographing food, the Galaxy M51 automatically detects image objects and provides different settings, users only need to place food at the recommended point.

The bokeh effect given to this AI food photo feels excessive, it looks like an edit.

Another lens on the back of the Galaxy M51 is a 5MP macro and a 5MP depth.

While on the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera, more than enough for selfies and wefies with friends and family.

BETWEEN advice, check the “Beauty” effect setting before selfie, especially if you are reluctant to use it. Some phones automatically adjust the Beauty effect to a certain level.
