Quite a few people chose to take a walk. But on Saturday afternoon it seemed to be getting too busy on the breakwater at Zeeheldenplein. After consultation with Mayor Bart Tommelein (Open Vld), the police closed the entrance to the dam. Several police cars arrived on the scene. “A safe distance could not be guaranteed”, says Tommelein, who wants to prevent much worse. The crowds were mainly at the beginning of the dam. “But anyone who continues must also be able to return.”
