Werkrealschule Urli conquers the social networks

Urphar / Lindelbach. After the Werkreal- und Hauptschule Urphar-Lindelbach (UrLi), with significant voluntary support from Ingo Ortel, gave itself a much-noticed homepage in the past school year, the school is making further progress in the digital world, according to the acting headmaster Dieter Fauth in a press release . In view of the extension of the lockdown, this is particularly urgent for schools beyond January 11th, since the school lacks all opportunities to present itself in the real world.

That’s why the school now has a blog and is on the social media Facebook and Instagram. All platforms would be supervised exclusively by teachers from the school. While the school’s previous public relations work was mainly carried out via the print media and the homepage, networked platforms are now to be added. In this way, UrLi should gain attention. The print media should remain important in the future. The UrLi also wants to remain present in the real world. The school offers an individual school tour upon request of each individual family.

Two videos and one audio have now been produced and provided for the digital platforms. This should also be a compensation for the information evening of all secondary schools with the families from class 4 of the Wertheim elementary schools, which has to be canceled this year due to Corona. Videos and audio can be found, for example, on the homepage of the homepage.

Loan devices awarded

Of course, the pandemic also demands UrLi to penetrate further and further into the digital world, writes Dieter Fauth. In the school lockdown, which has been ongoing since December 16, she is well positioned. The class teachers had practiced various forms of distance learning with their students shortly before the autumn break. Since then, every student has been present in the class group on the Threema messenger platform, and the teachers have also practiced audio conferences in the teaching staff and with the classes about Jitsi.

Threema and Jitsi have been approved by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture as unobjectionable under data protection law. The UrLi can also reach its students by email, phone or post. The school very consciously not only practices one way for everyone, but also has several ways to be able to respond individually to the possibilities and circumstances of the families.

For all digital communication channels it is of course a prerequisite that the families have an internet-enabled device (e.g. PC or notebook) at home. If this is not the case, the school can provide a loaner device. Some student families have already made use of this since the lockdown in March 2020. In the last school year, UrLi was prepared in the best possible way by Richard Ries and the betting company Englert. At that time, Ries equipped 26 notebooks that the school won in a competition in 2012 with the latest software. An internet connection at home must also be available for this loan. If this is not the case with individual families, the teachers will keep in touch via non-digital channels.

Regular contact

In any case, “keeping in touch” means not only the exchange of teaching materials and student solutions, but also regular acoustic contact between teacher and student. Fauth: “But let’s hope that all of this only has to be used for a while and that we can overcome the pandemic this school year.”

Since the UrLi has turned so intensively to digital media, there is also the risk that these media, which are already too much used in the everyday lives of the students, will be further intensified. Initiated by the school social work, the school maintains a cooperation with the prevention department of the Tauberbischofsheim criminal investigation department, which regularly conducts courses on the critical handling of media in classes.
