Bremen – By Annika Hinke. On Sunday, SV Werder Bremen can make their return to the Bundesliga perfect with a draw against Jahn Regensburg (3.30 p.m. / Wohninvest Weserstadion). It is nothing unusual for relegated teams from the previous season to be promoted again directly in the next season – a total of 46 clubs have already done so. What is unique so far is that since the single track in the 2nd Bundesliga, all Bundesliga relegated teams have managed to be promoted directly again in the following season. But now, thanks to Werder and FC Schalke 04, it could be that time again.
The premiere wasn’t that long ago. In the 2015/16 season, VfB Stuttgart and Hannover 96 left the top division and had to go into the 2. Bundesliga dismount For the Lower Saxony, the way down was already clear on the 31st matchday, because with a draw against Ingolstadt there was no mathematical chance of a rescue. Werder Bremen and Schalke 04: relegation together, promotion together?
Since the introduction of the single-track 2. Bundesliga For the 1981/82 season, two clubs made it several times, the year after Bundesliga–descent rise again together. In these six cases, however, one of a total of three Bundesliga relegated teams remained in the second division.
Immediately down and immediately up again are FC Schalke 04 and Karlsruher SC (relegation 1982/83 – promotion 1983/84), VfL Bochum alongside Bayer Uerdingen (1992/93 – 1993/94), VfL Bochum and MSV Duisburg (1994/ 95 – 1995/96), SC Freiburg and 1. FC Köln (2001/02 – 2002/03), Arminia Bielefeld and 1. FC Nürnberg (2002/03 – 2003/04) as well as Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Koln (2003/04 – 2004/05).
Before the single track, as the relegated either in the north or south echelon of the 2. Bundesliga had to, there were also two more synchronized walkers. In addition to Arminia Bielefeld and 1. FC Nuremberg (relegation 1978/79 – promotion 1979/80) also the SV Werder Bremen, who first relegated with Eintracht Braunschweig in 1980/81 and then returned directly.
