weekly flash | News | Farang trips over a rickety billboard which falls on the car

BANGKOK – A foreign man accidentally damaged a car after he tripped on the sidewalk outside a Bangkok shopping mall, dragging a large, heavy billboard onto the vehicle. The car owner thanked the stranger for paying for damages to his car, but condemned the mall for believing he should pay.

Premvadee Bunchatherawate shared the incident on Facebook yesterday.

He asked Siam Square One mall to take responsibility for the damage the foreigner caused to his vehicle.

Premvadee said he took his white sedan from the mall near Siam yesterday with his daughter in the passenger seat BTS extension the station drove.

As she waited to make a right turn onto Main Street, a shopping mall sign fell on her car, smashing the window and shattering the glass in her daughter’s lap.

Premvadee was shocked to see the perpetrator of the accident, a confused foreign man lying on the sidewalk with an injured leg.

The foreign man told Premvadee that he tripped over a bump in the sidewalk and grabbed the sign to avoid falling.

However, the shield was not strong enough to support its weight and fell on the car.

The stranger apologized and gave her 15.000 Baht for the damage.

Premvadee told mall staff about the incident and asked them to take responsibility, but they refused.

Premvadee asked why the mall didn’t secure the heavy sign securely, and asked staff what would happen if the sign fell on a pedestrian or child.

The mall assumes no responsibility for anything. They let the foreigner take the responsibility, just like that. Bangkokians have to be careful not to bump into the sign when they walk on the sidewalk, right?”

Many netizens agree with Premvadee, saying the mall should take responsibility for the incident.

Many others commented on how sorry they felt for the foreign man.
