Weekly figures RIVM: Number of corona cases starts to rise again | Inland

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) will again provide weekly figures on the state of the outbreak on Tuesday. In the six days since the last update, 14,847 positive tests have been registered, an average of about 2,475 per day. That means the weekly figure could come out at about 17,500 new cases on Tuesday. That would be about 5 percent more than last week. Then the RIVM reported 16,564 positive tests in the seven days before.

The number of positive tests is mainly increasing in Flevoland, Brabant-North, IJsselland and Gelderland-South, but also in many other regions. In South Limburg, Brabant-Zuidoost and Zeeland, a significant decrease can still be seen.

RIVM also reports how many corona patients have been admitted to hospitals in the past week. That will probably stay about the same. Last week, the service reported 408 new admissions in a week, compared to 436 the week before. The number of deaths is also fairly stable. That probably comes out to just over 40, just like in the two weeks before.

The institute also calculates the new reproduction number on Tuesday, which indicates how quickly the virus is spreading. The figure rose to 0.97 last Friday and may now be above 1. This would indicate that the number of infections is slowly but surely increasing again. The figure is always about the situation two weeks earlier, because more recent figures are not yet reliable enough.
