Weekly figures: number of positive tests starts to fall | Inland

In the six days after the last weekly figures, 11,682 infections have come to light. On Monday, there were only 1,370 new cases, the lowest number since July 4. The new weekly figure could come out between 13,500 and 14,000 positive tests on Tuesday. That would equate to a decline of about 15 percent. It would also be the lowest weekly figure since July 6.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported last Tuesday that it had received just under 16,000 reports of positive tests in the seven days before. That was more than 10 percent less than the week before.

Number of deaths rising

RIVM also reports on Tuesday how many corona patients have been admitted to hospitals in the past week. That’s probably just over 300, up from 355 the week before. The number of reported deaths from corona is rising. In the past six days, RIVM registered the death of forty corona patients, compared to 35 in the seven days before. This does not automatically mean that all these forty people have died in the past six days. Some of these people may have died before, but this is only now being recorded.

The institute also calculates the new reproduction number on Tuesday, which indicates how quickly the virus is spreading. The figure fell to its lowest level in about a month late last week. It is now slightly below 1. The outbreak is in fact still stable, but it corresponds to the slowly but surely declining number of positive tests.
